XP, Coins and their relation

In the marketplace some items in FarmVille can be bought for Farm Coins and some for Farm Cash. What would be a good exchange rate or let´s say a method to compare the both?

Farm Coins: can be earned in numerous ways. By harvesting, doings side tasks, collecting and so on.
Farm Cash: can only be earned when leveling up. For each level a player gets 1 Farm Cash. So within the game 70 Farm Cash are to be earned for free at this moment.

Maybe the most basic comparison we can make is by using "real dollars" as exchange rate. In the "Add Farm Coins & Cash" section we find:

In other words, in the optimal exchange rate:

Real Dollars Farm Cash Farm Coins
$ 40,00 240 70600 as in shop
1 6 1765 dollar based
$ 0,17 1 294,17 farm cash based
$0,00056657 0,00339943 1 farm coins based

What it says here is that 295 Farm Coins is worth1 Farm Cash but dollar based.

The limitation of this simplistic line of thinking is that Farm Cash is a limited good in the game. You really have to purchase it. Besides that, at a certain moment in the game, players will have so much Farm Coins that they probably don't know what to do with it anymore except stashing it. So not a single player will trade his 1 Farm Cash for a teeny weeny 295 Farm Coins.

Which means that the only way we are able to find out what the exchange rate is of the Farm Cash to the Farm Coin is when a trade system is setup in the game. After some time we will find out what items are really wanted by players. So players who bought items for Farm Cash will trade with (limited) items available for Farm Coins. Or even people will start trading Farm Cash for Farm Coins. In that "marketplace" where "emotion" and "feelings" will play a large role we will probably see the true exchange rate of the two.

Zynga will probably benefit highly from such an internal economy as with all multiplayer kind of internal economies. Maybe it will result in a new sort of paying standard that will represent the two monetary systems.

My first guess is that 1 Farm Cash will probably turn out to be at least 250.000 Farm Coins. What do you think?

    Hmm, good breakdown. I think the 250.000 estimate is a bit high, but I was thinking about this a few days back as well. I would guess somewhere around 100k per 1FVC. But like you said, depends more on item value, I don't think FVC would be as important as items. I remember when I used to play Diablo 2, gold was worthless, people traded in rare rings, I think something like trading FVC Flags could become the standard. lol Also, thanks for the link man.

    I'm averaging 50.000 coins and 1.000 XP a day. In terms of leveling, that's an average of 10 days a level / 1 FVC. At 250k / 1 FVC, buying is twice as fast as leveling, but it still takes 5 days.On average, when buying FCV, the most expensive exchange rate is USD 0,2 / 1 FVC. That's 5 days worth of harvesting and waiting for USD 0,2. The opportunity costs are way too high here, I'd always chose time over money and buy the FVC.I think 1 FVC will turn out to be at most one day's profit (about 50k) if not much less. The most expensive item in the game yet was 60 FVC, that's worth 10 dollars (Farmer's Best Value). Even with 50k / 1 FVC, it'd be 3 times as expensive as the villa and it would take 60 days (at a 50k rate) to get it. 60 days or 10 dollars?
