Tuesday seed #47 was introduced in FarmVille: Morning Glory. It is also the 8th flower in Farmville. And it is absolutely worthwhile to put this one to the front of your Mastership Wish List.
Let's do a little rundown on the new seed.
|
First of all… what is it? Let's do a bit of education from wikipedia:
Morning glory is a common name for over 1,000 species of flowering plants in the family Convolvulaceae, whose current taxonomy and systematics is in flux. Morning glory species belong to many genera
The flower usually lasts for a single morning and dies in the afternoon. On a cloudy day, the flower may last until night. New flowers bloom each day. The flowers usually start to fade a couple of hours before the petals start showing visible curling. They prefer full sun throughout the day and mesic soils. Some morning glories, such as Ipomoea muricata, are night blooming flowers.
In some places such as Australian bushland, morning glories develop thick roots and tend to grow in dense thickets. They can quickly spread by way of long creeping stems. By crowding out, blanketing and smothering other plants, morning glory has turned into a serious invasive weed problem.

Within FarmVille the Flower lasts for something longer: after 12 hours (thanks) the Morning Glory is ready for harvesting. |
Looking purely at Revenue the Morning Glory takes a 34th spot between the Sweet Potato and the Squash, so revenue wise it is not so interesting.
When we take the revenue per hour of the Morning Glory the same goes, it takes a spot a place #21.
Maybe the pure profit of the Morning Glory would bring change to it. But as you can see it is at the bottom of the list at spot #37.
And the profit per hours is of course also not the best:
Even within the domain of the flowers themselves it falls in the middle, by far not so good as the sunflowers but better than the daffodils.
When we look at the mastership chances we finally find a … number 1 position! (that is always cool for new things). The morning glory, when Mastered, delivers an extra XP of 6 (!) with a chance of 0.2 of getting that extra XP while harvesting your crops. So by multiplying the chance with the Mastership XP we get an extra 1.2 XP on average for this new crop the Morning Glory.
And how does the mastership table looks like for the Morning Glory? Actually… Pretty Good! It is in the bottom of the list of amount of time it costs to master a seed. With a field of 400 Squares you can get the Morning Glory Mastery Sign within 3.91 days.
By harvesting a total of 3000 plots / squares of Morning Glory you get the third Mastery Progress Star and thus the Mastery Sign. And of course this will count against your Flower Power Ribbon (10000 for the blue ribbon, so 1/3 of the amount you need for the blue ribbon)
Finally, the chances of getting a Perfect Bunch to give to your friends is also uh the other chance.

We even learn a lot about trees in FarmVille:
"Carambola or starfruit is the fruit of Averrhoa carambola, a species of tree native to Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka. The tree and its fruit are popular throughout Southeast Asia, Malaysia, the South Pacific and other parts of East Asia. The tree is cultivated also throughout the tropics such as in Trinidad, Guyana, and Brazil, and, in the United States, in south Florida, and Hawaii.
The carambola is closely related to the bilimbi. The fruit in cross section is a five-pointed star, hence its name."
(from wikipedia)
Anyway. The Tree has been added to the Almanac. And as you can see from the revenue overview:
The Starfruit tree does not perform bad actually. It takes a 4th spot in the tree list (or 3rd of the currently available). And since the ACAI tree is FV only it probably is the 2nd best tree currently out there when you want to have the most revenue of your trees.
It is also easy to get since the level required is 2 where the olive tree (the #1 of the gifteable trees) takes level 32. So … taking all this into account. If you have trouble getting any Olive Trees from friends then the StarFruit Tree is probably the best tree currently in the game available simply because you can easily get A LOT of them.
I have not yet had the chance to grow a forest of StarFruit Trees to check if it is easy identifiable by fruit when it is ready in the middle of a forest. That is something to be checked later.

It took me somewhat longer to update the Egg-Celent Discovery Achievement page and the Fenced In Achievement Page because I changed somewhat stuff in the website also while I was at it. But click there for the information.

For the Egg-Celent Discovery Achievement you need 100 produced mystery eggs from your Chicken Coop. So in the best case that is 100 days :) Or if you have cheated in the past and have a gazillion Chicken Coops on your farm only a few days. It was introduced on 5 January 2010.
Another way to speed this up for friends is to visit friends their Chicken Coops. By doing so you will increase the chance that they will find a Mystery Egg. And you can thank them for doing so:
You can however also request your friends to visit YOUR chickens to increase your chance of finding mystery eggs!
You can feed the chickens in your neighbor's coops once daily. Just like Fertilizing so… you could combine the two :)
You will see that the chicken coop has a "blue aura" so you can click it and feed the chickens for an extra 4 coins an 1 XP. But you can only click it AFTER you have fertilized your neigbors crops. For people who have multiple Chicken Coops … only 1 will work.

By doing so you will also have a chance on a Mystery Egg! If you don't get one then you will see the following sign:
If you do get lucky you can post it on the wall for your friends:

The Fenced In Achievement is a funny Achievement. I see people all over just buying the cheapest 250 fences (the white ones), gaining the XP and then selling them again. It's funny to see this happening.
Then again, you could of course use the moment to create some cool structures of your fences while you are at it.
I took the easy route and bought the white fences (300 coins and +5XP). I started out with:
The bonuses were:
And my land looked like this:
As you can see, you need about 8 by 8 squares of room :) My Coins and XP are now:
So .. let's click 250 times on "sell" (for 15 coins) and…
In other words: this achievement costs me 53535 coins and gained me 2630 XP when going via the cheapest route (which is 20.36 coins per XP).

I have updated the Farmers Almanac (above) with the complete list of items that were / are in the FarmVille Tree. Of course I could be missing out on some items, so please check them below for items that I missed. I count 12 animals and 12 decorations for now.

Decorations: http://almanac.farmvillechicken.com/all-ways-of-retrieving-decorations
Fuel:
I have not yet added a seperate fuel items topic but this week might be a good week to do so ;)

I didn't write about it before, but I think you noticed this "play farmville" thing in the top right corner
I placed it there because many of you ask me / forums / inbox that you lost your FarmVille feed and have no clue on how to get it back. You can try a lot of things but apart from that I placed a link under that "play FarmVille" that takes you directly to your feed on your wall to make it easier for that percentage of users that has trouble doing all these technical things.
Just click it and you are on your feed. No difficult "technical" things to perform.
Of course, ideally a selection box should popup that would let you choose to either go to http://farmville.com or http://apps.facebook.com/onthefarm/index.php but I have put that on the TODO list.
That the link works well for some of you shows:
"Edward, it is that I don't know you or else I would have given you a big kiss"
*grin* no problem!
